Reason #1 to Send a Postcard: It’s Somebody’s Birthday

Birthday postcards! They’re so much better than birthday cards.

Why? Because birthday cards start to feel stodgy. Everybody buys birthday cards, and after awhile, it starts to feel like maybe they’re all doing it out of obligation. But birthday postcards? They say, “Hello, I didn’t just buy you this postcard because I had to—otherwise I would have bought you a birthday card, because the card aisle at the grocery store contains about a million options. Birthday postcards are almost impossible to find, and I went to the trouble of finding you one because I love you.”

They don’t literally have to say that…you should write your own message. But it’s implied.
