Founded in 1999 in Olympia, Washington, Buy Olympia offered a way for the founders to support their artist friends in pursuing their passions. The company has since become an international operation, publishing and distributing work by amazing artists of all kinds from their current home base in Portland, Oregon. Today, they focus most directly on amplifying art that inspires wonder, sparks smiles, and encourages self-expression.
This particular postcard showcases art from Beth Kerschen’s Urban Retrospectives series, featuring iconic Seattle scenery. Kerschen employs a combination of photography, collage, and print-making techniques to create her representations of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic urban scenes. The cards are offset-printed on 100% recycled chipboard with vegetable-based inks by a small family-owned printer in Portland. The designs on the front are printed in monochrome, while the backs (featuring a series logo, information on the artist and print, four address lines, and a stamp space in the shape of a road sign) use black ink.
From the artist: “For me, individual photographs helped me preserve memories of the places and experiences I loved, but I always wanted more. I wanted to find a way to capture all of the things I saw and felt and imagined into one cohesive image. I wanted to capture the spirit of a place.”
