Founded in 1999 in Olympia, Washington, Buy Olympia offered a way for the founders to support their artist friends in pursuing their passions. The company has since become an international operation, publishing and distributing work by amazing artists of all kinds from their current home base in Portland, Oregon. Today, they focus most directly on amplifying art that inspires wonder, sparks smiles, and encourages self-expression.
This particular postcard features art from the Social Justice Kittens series by Sean Tejaratchi, who is known (among other things) for “defiling book covers and other vintage ephemera” in order to make “postcards featuring his improvements.” It is printed on smooth white cardstock of average thickness, with a glossy finish on both sides; the back includes a line of print information down the middle, and an outlined stamp space in the top right.
From the publisher: “This postcard features a charming kitten professionally photographed in a heroic pose appropriate to defiantly speaking out on the hottest social justice issues of the day … Each adorable kitten was subject to a week-long, grueling interview process to ensure there was absolutely nothing problematic in its beliefs.”
